Maridee Charlton

Maridee Houston Charlton, Volunteer Liaison

Maridee Charlton is a successful clothing consultant and representative of Etc, Clothing. She grew up in Los Altos, swimming and life guarding at the Covington Pool. Maridee entire family exemplifies the Los Altos Community. She has served as a member of Park and Recreation for over 6 years following in the footsteps of her parents, Jack and Bobby Houston, who are personally responsible for the Festival of Lights and Pet Parade. Maridee along with her husband Bruce, run all the voluteers for the Covington Swim team. Their daughter, Casey is active in dance, swimming and attends Santa Rita School.

“I grew up swimming and teaching at the Covington Pool and am personally commited to bringing a pool back to Casey’s generation. My dad would be proud of the effort to bring another recreation site to Los Altos..”

John Day

John Day, Executive Director

John Day is president and founder of Strategies Unlimited of Mountain View, a provider of market research and strategic planning for the electronics industry. Educated at MIT and Stanford, John is a Board Member and Treasurer of Community Services Agency of Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills. John, an avid lap swimmer, and his wife, Stevie, a regular at senior water aerobics, have lived in Los Altos for over 37 years. Their two daughters learned to swim at Covington. Daughter, Betsy, was a Life Saving and swim instructor at Covington for many years.

"The demographics of our community have changed. The census shows that average age in 94022/94024 is now 40 with almost 30% under the age of 18. The population of children is growing exponentially. This community needs more recreational facilities for families and children. A community pool is one of the few recreational options that serves from the very youngest to the most senior. It will improve the quality of life in the community, and I heartily endorse this project."

Kamrin Knight Desmond

Kamrin Knight Desmond, Treasurer

Kamrin Knight Desmond and her husband are lifelong residents of Los Altos, where Kamrin is co-owner of Knight & Company Bookkeeping and Tax Services, Inc., a family business operating in Los Altos since 1954. Kamrin started swimming for rehabilitation from a back injury and, through swimming, has avoided surgery while resuming her regular activities. Kamrin's three daughters participated in Covington Swim Team and her oldest is the current head coach.

"Los Altos needs a community pool. I want our children to continue to have the opportunity to have swimming and water activities in their lives."

Greg Holberg, Co-Chair Construction

Greg Is a former vice president of Pinnacle Systems and general manager at Hewlett Packard. He has been an active member of the pool design and construction committees, helping to make sure the new pool meets the needs of the entire Los Altos community. His son learned to swim at Covington and is now a swimmer and polo player at Mountain View.

“The new pool will be a great community asset, helping families meet families in a healthy, relaxed atmosphere. Some of our closest family friendships were established on the pool deck.”

Dick King

Dick King, Fundraising Consultant

Dick King is a fundraising consultant who has been working with the Los Altos Community Pool Foundation since August 2006. He brings to the project over 18 years of extensive fund development experience at institutions such as The Tech Museum of Innovation and The Health Trust.

Karin Klarreich, Fundraising Committee

Karin Klarreich has been a resident of Los Altos with her husband and 3 children for 22 years. She is currently the Development Director for Youth Tennis Advantage and is an avid Masters swimmer. She grew up as a synchronized swimmer in Cleveland, Ohio, and has great memories of wonderful, long lasting friendships formed at the neighborhood pool while growing up. Karin currently serves on the Board of Directors for Ronald McDonald House at Stanford and is a past Board member of Los Altos Educational Foundation and past president of Almond Elementary School PTA.

“Swimming has always been an important part of my life. It helps me to stay focused and feel good and I believe everyone should be afforded that opportunity. That is why we need a COMMUNITY pool in this city!"

Dan'l Lewin

Dan'l Lewin, Co-Chair Development

Dan'l Lewin is Vice President for .NET Business Development for Microsoft Corporation. A 25 year Silicon Valley veteran, Dan'l held executive positions at leading Silicon Valley companies including Apple Computer, Next Computer, and Aurigin Systems prior to Microsoft. Dan'l and his wife have made Los Altos their home and have two college aged sons. Dan'l is active in fund raising for Princeton University and was instrumental in raising funds to renovate the Los Altos High School pool where his sons competed in water polo.

"Swimming has opened doors for me. I'm active in the Los Altos Community Pool Foundation so I can give back. I'd like to ensure that all Los Altos children get the opportunity to grow through athletics."

Jim McFadzean

James McFadzean

James McFadzean is a partner specializing in the technology practice for Ray & Berndtson, a leader in executive search. Jim and his family are five year residents of Los Altos. In support of his daughter's swimming success, Jim is past president of DACA (De Anza Cupertino Aquatics) and a member of the Founders' Circle supporting the St. Francis High School aquatic center.

Debbie Munro, Marketing Director

Debbie Munro is a Co-Founder of White Space Ink, a strategic sales and marketing consulting firm. Debbie speciality is helping companies and individuals increase their business through focused sales campaigns and strategic selling techniques. Debbie lives in Los Altos with her husband, Ken, who grew up in Los Altos and enjoyed swimming at the Covington pool and competing in a summer swim league as a child. They have two daughters, who attend Santa Rita School, swim year round with PASA and participate in PISL summer league. The Munros take an active role in the lives of their children coaching youth sports teams and leading Girl Scout troops.

“Los Altos is a great community today, because of the volunteer efforts and financial contributions of our parents generation – we love events like, Pet Parade, and Festival of Lights and visiting Shoupe park – I see the Community Pool as another place for our children to gather and exercise. Bringing back a community pool is an opportunity for our generation to give something to Los Altos.”

Ed Rooch

Ed Rooch

Ed Rooch has built a 20-year Silicon Valley career in electronics sales. Since 1984, Ed and his family have lived in Los Altos where his son grew up.

"I have seen a lot of changes here in the Valley in the last 20 years. It's of paramount importance to meet the needs of Los Altos in 2007, which means serving the growing base of families with young children. That's why I am committed to the Los Altos Community Pool Foundation."

Dick Thomas

Dick Thomas, Co-Chair Construction

Dick Thomas is the Global Staff Industrial designer and Design Manager for Applied Biosystems in Foster City. Dick has made Los Altos his home for the past eighteen years. His children attend Blach middle school and Los Altos High schools and participate in Covington Swim Team. Dick has a strong swimming background as a four time collegiate All-American who qualified for Olympic Trials. He currently holds two world masters records and is an eleven (11) time masters swimming All-American and National Champion. He has 20 years experience as a coach at all levels, and as a pool manager.

"Building this pool is a way to give back to a sport that has given me so much. My friends and family are all actively involved. This pool will ensure that they and all Los Altos citizens will have the same opportunities for fitness and camaraderie that I have had for years to come."

Todd Trowbridge

Todd Trowbridge

Todd Trowbridge is Director of Preventive Medicine at BaySport Inc. where he specializes in health and wellness of adults and prevention of vascular diseases. He is particularly interested in promoting healthy lifestyles for both children and adults through exercise. A swimming and water polo alumni of the University of California, Todd was an NCAA champion and member of the 1980 US Olympic Team. The Trowbridge family live in Los Altos where his two children attend elementary school and compete with Covington Swim Team. Todd and his wife are active in the Los Altos Educational Foundation and Los Altos Union Presbyterian Church.

"Swimming has given me so much. My growth, through swimming, taught me about life and I'm committed to ensuring that all children to have that same opportunity. I believe that Los Altos must have a community pool."
