The who, what and why...
What we are...
The Los Altos Community Pool Foundation is a California registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and providing a public swimming pool facility for Los Altos. The organization is currently raising capital funds for the construction of the Los Altos Community Pool. The Foundation is working with the City of Los Altos to provide a public pool to replace the Covington Pool that was here for 47 years. There are currently no public pools in Los Altos.
The Los Altos Community Pool Foundation's goal is to raise $8 million in cash and pledges by March 31, 2008 One major contribution is securing $600,000 sponsorships of each of the eight competition lanes in the pool. Groups leading the lane campaigns include:
- David and Lucile Packard Foundation
- Covington Critters Swim Team
- Los Altos Master Swimmers
- Los Altos Business Community
If you would like to support one of the lane campaigns, or start one of your own, contact us to determine the best method for you.
Who
While this project has been active for many years, we are getting close to having a community pool. During the years of making this a reality, many have contributed along the way and we thank all of the volunteers and supporters. On the accompanying pages, you will find details on the current team and partners assisting Los Altos Community Pool Foundation "Build a Better Community" If you meet any of these people, please help us recognize their efforts in making Los Altos a better community.
Why
This is difficult question to answer. Some of our supporters are swimmers and are part of a Masters Swim Team. Others, have kids they want to be sure are safe in the water and to build a healthy appreciation of life long habits of excersize. Then there are those that understand that a pool is more than just swimming. It is also a great social activity and not just for the young. Many of these people have mentioned their fondest memories as kids involved a community pool. Los Altos is a great place to live because it is a community. The diversity we offer now includes parades, picnics, sports, art, music, but needs the community pool to round it out.
